Roots of Life Performing Arts Ensemble is an arts-education program founded in 2009 by Associate Professor of Theatre/Dance, Kikora Franklin, and Learning Enrichment teacher, Debra Daggs. Roots of Life uses dance, drumming, history, poetry and literature to create original productions that are performed throughout the community. Roots of Life is supported by the Learning Enrichment Program of the State College Area School District.
From Africa to Hip Hop- Dance Workshop is a project that will allow students in Roots of Life to engage in a masterclass dance worksop which will highlight the historical and cultural connections of West African dance and contemporary Hip Hop dance. The Hip Hop dance workshop will be led by Penn State alum, Quilan Arnold. Quilan earned his MFA in Dance from the Ohio State University in 2016. He currently teaches and performs in New York City.
