Testimonials

“The Online Graduate Teaching Practicum offered a valuable space to discover various teaching methodologies and learn about shared experiences. The diverse structure of the practicum was exciting! There was always a unique topic exploration that could be applied in building my knowledge, research, and teaching. Anna Divinsky did a superb job inviting guests who shared imperative information that could be applied in my future scholarship.

In learning so much from such a positive experience in the practicum, I attended numerous times after to engage in the additional learning material from Anna as she consistently incorporates new teaching techniques. Additionally, I was also able to be a guest and share my own teaching practices making my experience full circle from being a graduate student in the practicum to a mentor presenting my experiences. The possibilities are endless! I highly recommend experiencing such a non-stressed enjoyable practicum where you learn and have fun!”

“Getting reminders of working best-practices is often what teaching educators need. As an experienced teacher, I like to see hear and lean what others are doing in their practice. I also think it’s valuable and important to help inexperienced teachers learn from my experiences—why make them reinvent the wheel when they could spend time and energy on developing other positive strengths? Thanks so much for offering this course!”

“This very first semester as a PhD student has not been easy for me but I really enjoyed attending sessions every week and learned a lot from the practicum as for my role as a teaching assistant and how to build constructive relationships with my students. Thank you for offering such a great experience!”

Ye Sul Park (she/her/hers) Doctoral Student, Art Education

“Through this course, I learned a lot of valuable strategies for effective communication with students and genuine caring for students. The practicum was such a community of practice that graduate teaching assistants share each other’s insightful online teaching methods and philosophy, and receive thoughtful feedback from various perspectives.”

Doctoral Student, Art Education + Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

“The graduate online teaching practicum created a sense of graduate student teaching community that I felt welcomed and collective in supporting each one’s online teaching practices. The practicum, instructed by Anna Divinsky, provides all graduate instructors with useful resources and strategies concerning effective feedback, time management, and communication. She cares about everyone’s growth and needs and tries to provide her best support. What I learned from the practicum helped me in my own teaching practice and offered me opportunities to present my art educational approaches to new graduate students. The practicum meetings are also a good place to connect with graduate students from other disciplines, and I met my fellowship research partner at one of the practicum meetings. Overall, this practicum is beneficial to all graduate student instructors in many aspects.”

“My experience with the Graduate Online Teaching Practicum with Professor Anna Divinsky was very rewarding. One of the greatest contributions of Professor Divinsky’s teaching for my own practices as a teacher was the attention she gave to being supportive of students. I learned many strategies for working with college students with compassion, patience, and understanding. At this shifting time in our culture, I am learning how crucial it is to practice pedagogies of care to assist students in accomplishing their best work. This can be difficult under the pressures that we are experiencing as students in academia right now, but Professor Divinsky modeled this caring approach during our Practicum.”

“This practicum is a must-take for any graduate student wishing to gain more insight in teaching within an online or hybrid setting. Anna does an incredible job providing a variety of resources, including bringing in expertise speakers, that are not only beneficial for teaching, but for professional development as well. As a music education doctoral student, I also had the chance to meet other students beyond my field of study. There were several topics included throughout, such as topics centered around inclusive pedagogy, that has made me re-think about my own research and how I might better educate both undergraduate and graduate students. Thank you Anna for providing this amazing opportunity to learn and grow!”.
